UNDERSTANDING Number

Social Business Design

Mathematically speaking, Zero, One, Two and Three are not romantic, cosmic or universal.

Logically talking, 0 is everything we are familiar with: a point on an axis, nothing in an addition, an order of magnitude when it comes to money and other measures.

Philosophically, zero is the Still Point of Silence and Balance, in our mind: inside the head, as well as outside.

When we leave our head and move off this planet, when we sit and watch how stars shine and planets move, we see what we see before our inner eye: eternal movement, continuous generation of phenomena: thoughts in our mind, physical events before our outer eyes.

Zero is inside. At the heart of the mind, as in the heart of the sun.

To go inside means coming to still the mind so that we are observers of not only ourselves but also the phenomenal world as it passes by.

And of cosmic nature as it unfolds and decays and re-unfolds.

Are we watching as observers or as participants? Only in the stillness of the mind will we feel the pull towards new ideas, and the push to pursue new insights that allow us to integrate: the outside with the inside, the external perception with internal notions, the personal and the human, the cosmic and the natural.

Polarities are there for transcending: integrating on the next level, rising to the nearest star.

Two is the symmetry that ensures our eyes are the mirror of our soul, so that we see before and behind our eyes: light behind and matter before.

“Understanding Number” has been attributed to me by a professor of physics, computing and mathematics – as the most important work since relativity theory. But, so far, it hasn’t helped to raise the funds necessary to turn my software designs into Smart Knowledge Portals.

My latest funding application is to the Tech for Good Challenge. ‘Friends’ are supposed to click the ‘like’ button to increase chances of success, but I don’t even know whether readers can see what I see!

The Tech for Good Challenge promotes a ‘social enterprise’ that, unfortunately, perpetuates capitalism in the way it leads to When Corporations Rule the World.

I’d prefer to create a ‘social business‘ a la Nobel Peace prize winner Muhammad Yunus and wonder whether ‘crowd funders’ might commit to monthly payments rather than a ‘capital sum’ for ‘equity’? That to me would be a good ‘online formula’ for a ‘social business’. I’ll see whether I can manage to put that together with WordPress!

Time, Space and Energy

These three are for science what love, faith and hope are for religion:

holy grails, unending ideas, unfathomable concepts.

But Einstein had a dream: unifying time, space and energy must be possible.

If god knew how to create our world, we must be able to follow his or her thoughts.
If I worked it out, then not because I wanted to, but because I had to.

My inner logic told me what to think about:
from the mysteries of prime numbers,
eternity of time and infinity of space,
to the logic of measuring.

You see, established, ‘institutionalised’ science has evolved from paper-based thinking in universities, institutes and laboratories such as CERN.

Absolute relativity: the bridge between general and specific relativity

“Absolute relativity” of measuring is achieved by

  1. the origin (0, 0, 0) of a coordinate system determines the absoluteness of a reference point in 3D TimeSpace
  2. the absoluteness of a point position determines the relativity of length scales on each coordinate axis
  3. as well as the relativity to other 3D bodies, 2D measuring planes and 1D measurements.

Einstein‘s special relativity relates to the structure of spacetime which should be qualified as “nd spacetime”.

His general relativity relates to the theory of gravitation.

“3D TimeSpace” rather than “nD SpaceTime”

“3D TimeSpace”? Sounds “unscientific”, a former CERN colleague said.

3D TimeSpace is the conceptual framework for the “3D Metric” Universe. It is the ‘model’ and ‘worldview’ or Weltbild where time and space are united for phenomena to take place in – in eternal evolution and constant change:

  • between lightness and darkness
  • visibility and invisibility
  • audibility and non-audibility
  • measurability and estimability.

3D TimeSpace turns out to be a wonderful concept or construct: a model in which the origin (0,0,0) of a coordinate system à la Descartes

  • is anywhere in space: on and off earth
  • at any scale: nano, micro and macro.

The scale determines the LENGTH units of the coordinates.

And instead of measuring time, MOVEMENT is measured in “3D TimeSpace”.

Movement is measured as SPEED between point A (x1, y1, z1) and point B (x2, y2, z2) in “3D TimeSpace”. But besides measuring along lines, there are waves and other “shapes of movement” that can be used.

All else follows: the idea that everything is connected, that the Universe is coherent, consistent and so intelligent that humans can’t figure it out…

For these humans have been predominantly men who have been using pen and paper, for 2000 years since Greek thinking was replaced by Latin as the dominant language.

Indian scriptures have described what we have experienced as Kali Yuga: the “age of Kali”, “male demon” or Dark Age.

Opinions about the duration of each cycle or Yuga vary. But that we live in “interesting times” is pretty obvious to anybody and, maybe, also the need for a paradigm shift or “conceptual quantum leap” – even if it sounds “unscientific”.

But, actually, the effect of this concept is comparable to the operating system for software: a framework that connects all the parts.

“3D TimeSpace” is thus a conceptual framework for connecting the dots that are each a science in themselves:

Geo-metry is about measuring Earth, stupid, and Earth is 3D!

How come that the Greeks knew how to measure not only earth but also the heavens?

How come that current metrics work either in astronomical or in nano-scales but not both?

And why was Escher fascinated by those geometric structures called polyhedra? What on earth is their significance?

Well, I’ve come up with “3d metric” ideas, concepts and insights that make the connections between

  • geometry and number theory
  • measuring time and space
  • measuring stillness and movement

as well as

  • macro- and micro-dimensions
  • astro- and nuclear physics
  • physics and mathematics.

For Einstein had pointed out the gap:

As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain, as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality.
